Save Our Spring Lane
Cemetery
Michael Howard MP for
Folkestone and Hythe has called on Shepway District Council to reverse its
decision to close Spring Lane Cemetery.
Mr Howard visited the
cemetery on Friday morning together with concerned local residents including
Jim Smith whose infant son is buried in the cemetery. Mr Smith has bought a number of plots in the cemetery so that
other family members can be buried next to his son.
Mr Howard said “It is clear
that Mr Smith, and other local residents, are very upset by the Council’s
decision to close the cemetery. I have
written to the Council asking them to think again. I very much hope they will do so.”
Mr Howard has asked that his
letter be read at the meeting of the Council’s Scrutiny Committee which will
examine the decision this evening. (Monday).
