Howard deplores Home office decision
on reporting centre
Michael Howard MP for
Folkestone and Hythe has written to Home Office Minister, Beverley Hughes,
deploring the decision of the Home Office to override Shepway District
Council’s objection to the change of use of the Old Folkestone Police Station
to a Reporting Centre for asylum seekers.
Mr Howard has asked the
Minister a series of questions about the process by which this decision was
reached and the way in which the Reporting Centre is intended to operate.
Mr Howard said “I have
consistently opposed the proposal to change the use of the Old Folkestone
Police Station to a Reporting Centre for asylum seekers. Folkestone has already discharged more than
its fair burden of the consequences of the Government’s failure to implement a
sensible policy in relation to asylum seekers.
I see no justification for this most recent Home Office Decision.”
